Saturday OnBoard Club

OnBoard Club

Our Saturday afternoon OnBoard clubs are continuing through 2025!

We sail as a small fleet and take youth sailors through a set of fun, but challenging exercises to specifically teach, coach and develop a real sailing ability, in any intended direction and in a variety of conditions.

We will often take a specific aspect of sailing point and coach it further. We have jumped onto bigger boats, double handers, Keel-boats, and even tried catamarans! We often focus on coaching the sailors, progressing their sailing skills through a wide variety of ways, often playing games that enhance their sailing skills.

This previous year we have also tried new things, like paddle boarding, windsurfing, and even winging! We also have gone on a few "Ice-cream adventures" where we sail round the corner to tie up our boats, get an ice cream from the visitors centre then sail back"

The onboard club is specifically about developing sailing ability; however, it is not a sail-where-you-like or a do-your-own-thing session.  Onboard is about becoming better sailors, together.

Our RYA qualified instructors have so many fun sessions planned for the upcoming season of 2025, so if you have any questions, queries or you just want to come down and meet us, give us a ring on 01629 540609 or email us on daniel.wellbournhesp@cscmail.co.uk or meg.kelly@cscmail.co.uk

Timings and Administration

Identification bibs for each sailor should be collected from the office on arrival, having pre-booked a place online.

The sailing group leave the shore at 14:00 promptly to maximise the 2 hours available, sailors should try to arrive earlier to prepare boats (and if possible arrive already changed ready to go!). Please have a chat with your Instructor on arrival.

Parents are asked to support their junior sailors to rig boats (parents may have opportunity to learn something here) and then help launch and recover the boats, its a good idea to bring some wellies.

We have a WhatsApp group for our parents so that we can discuss plans, chat about upcoming opportunities, and generally have a community feel. Ask at the office to be included in this group chat.

Who runs the OnBoard Club?

The OnBoard Club is always supported by one of our RYA qualified instructors, to ensure safety, learning and fun.

We encourage parents to help out and all are most welcome; just make yourself known to one of the instructors.

These sessions are run throughout the year every Saturday, (according to demand, weather and instructor availiablity) in 2024 we hardly cancelled any OnBoard sessions and if we did it was due to horrible weather.

To reserve a place for a block of sessions you may either book online for scheduled blocks or contact the Club Office on 01629 540609, Email Dan or Meg on Daniel.wellbournhesp@cscmail.co.uk or Meg.kelly@cscmail.co.uk or visit the Club in person (Wednesday to Sunday).
