RYA Levels 1 & 2 - Learn To Sail
These training courses are open to both Members and non-Members
No previous experience is required
We offer two main pathways of tuition, structured RYA courses and less formal private and bespoke tuition.
RYA Courses
Our RYA Adult Training courses combine the RYA Level 1 (Start Sailing) and RYA Level 2 (Basic Skills) courses and run over four days. This is usually delivered over the course of two weekends.
Level 1 (Start Sailing) - This course provides an initial introduction to sailing, covering all the basics and key information. By the end of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge, able to sail the boat around a triangle.
Level 2 (Basic Skills) - On completion of this course, the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in reasonable winds. You will learn how to use basic boat controls to complete basic manoeuvres including picking up a man overboard and coming alongside another boat or pontoon.
Key seamanship skills will be developed throughout the courses. This will include basic ropework and sailing theory.
Course Duration: 16 Hours for Level 1 & 16 Hours for Level 2
Ratio: Up to 3 students per instructor
Minimum age: 14
Prices - £350 for both the Level 1 and 2 qualification. This includes 2 full weekends of tuition as well as your certificates and handbook. £320 for members.
