Hansa Nationals at Carsington
Carsington Sailability Hosts 3 Day Hansa Nationals
Carsington Sailing Club was pleased to be the venue for the 2022 Hansa National Sailing event on Carsington Water recently. This three day dinghy racing event organised by the Hansa Class Association (UK) was hosted by Carsington Sailing Club and the Carsington Sailing Club Sailability Fleet. The Hansa Class of boats allow sailors with disabilities to sail with fellow sailors irrespective of their abilities. This National Event is part of a Hansa racing series of events that takes place across the country. The event attracted a truly global attendance, with competitors from the Netherlands, Eire, Oman, America, Canada, Taiwan and Tasmania, including Para-Olympian challengers aiming to compete at the 2028 Games. There were also local sailors from Carsington Sailability who competed in the races.
A typically English summer introduced our visitors to varying conditions to test their skills. A windy and baking hot Friday, a rainy Saturday and a cool and inclement Sunday all added to the weekends sailing.
The event was also attended by the CEO of Para Sailing, a global organisation who are currently trying to get Sailing reinstated into the Olympics through their "Back the Bid" campaign. Lets hope this happens and we can watch some of the sailors from this event at the Olympics.
It was a truly inspiring and enjoyable 3 days and was only made possible due to the tireless work of the people who supported the event. Huge thanks are extended to Carsington Sailing Club whose management team, staff and volunteers always support the Carsington Sailability Fleet. Importantly, we must recognise Carsington Sailability volunteers whose dedication and ambition to succeed made the weekend possible. Furthermore, a thank you to the Sailing Club Galley who ensured food and drinks were available over the weekend. And finally, the sailors and their traveling support teams who worked so hard over the weekend to make it such a memorable event.
Carsington Sailability prides itself on being friendly and open to all sailors ignorant of their ability and looks forward to hosting the Hansa event next year.
